Message Sent to Students Eligible for $750 HEER III Fund Grant
You are receiving this email because you qualify for financial assistance through the Higher Education Emergency Relief III (HEER III) Fund based on criteria established by the US Department of Education.
The federal American Rescue Plan (ARP) provided financial resources to colleges and universities. The resources available through the Higher Education Emergency Relief III (HEER III) Fund allow universities to distribute grants to students in need to cover any component of the student’s cost of attendance or emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus.
The amount of each HEER III Fund Grant is based on eligibility for need-based federal financial aid and the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) generated from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
For students enrolled in the Spring semester, payments will be processed beginning January 27. Amounts awarded will be reflected on your student account in ATHENA.
Here are some important details to keep in mind:
- You must be enrolled at the University of Georgia to receive your funds.
- You will receive grant funds through the refund profile you established with UGA Student Account Services. HEER III Fund grants will be paid directly to you: even if you owe a balance to the university, the grant will be paid directly to you to offset pandemic and cost of attendance related expenses. To establish/review your refund profile, please log into ATHENA and go to Access Student Account. For detailed instructions on how to establish or update your refund profile, please see the refund profile setup instructions.
- This grant does not affect your other financial aid awards. You will continue to receive any federal, state, institutional, or private financial aid for which you are eligible without that eligibility being reduced because of the HEER III Fund Grant.
- If you have special circumstances, you may appeal the HEER III Fund Grant amount awarded to you by accessing the appeal on the HEER III Fund page of the UGA Coronavirus site. This appeal will be reviewed by a committee of university personnel. The maximum amount a student may receive for Spring semester is $1,250. The appeal form will go live next week.
In addition to the HEER III Fund, should you need emergency financial resources, the UGA Student Emergency Fund is available to provide limited, one-time financial assistance to enrolled students who are unable to meet immediate, essential expenses because of temporary hardship related to an emergency situation, such as an accident, illness, death of a family member, natural disaster, or other unforeseen circumstance. Undergraduate students should go here and graduate students should go here for additional information and the application. Professional students should contact their programs for information on emergency resources.
